In order to estimate the amount of effort required for a project, each unit of work, captured as a User Story (see the User Story methods), is sized in units of story points (often just called points).

A story point aims to define a measure of relative complexity for a particular piece of work. The project team will use their experience and historical data to estimate the complexity of each story, relative to all others.
